Steven Simmons credits his public school education while growing up on Long Island, N.Y., with instilling his lifelong interest in learning and a strong work ethic.

It’s a work ethic that has the Greenwich cable entrepreneur leading an effort that he hopes will close Connecticut’s achievement gap between white, Asian and well-off students, and their minority and disadvantaged peers.
