Achieving Equitable Access to Strong Teachers: A Guide for District Leaders

Reads and Resources

This guide, published by the Education Trust, addresses the concern that students in the highest poverty schools are often taught by the least effective teachers. Achieving Equitable Access to Strong Teachers outlines a seven step process for district teams to develop strategies for improving access to excellent teachers for all students. The process requires district leaders to analyze challenges, underlying causes, and effects before developing strategies for improvement. The entire process is data-driven, reflective, and relies on input from a diverse team of stakeholders who can oversee the implementation of developed strategies. The guide provides thoughtful questions to consider as districts work through each of the seven steps, and lists common challenges and examples of how other districts have addressed them.
