She began working at CCER as a Graduate Fellow while earning her JD from the University of Connecticut School of Law. During that time, she helped CCER to establish priorities and associated briefs for the 2012 legislative session, and she also conducted research on Connecticut’s then-existing statutory provisions as compared to corresponding statutes from other states.
“During law school, I spent some time focused on special education advocacy, and I soon began to realize that the very concept of IEPs reveals a basic flaw underlying our public education system: namely, that we do not grant individualized attention to every student by default. In my own experience, the best teachers and leaders I had were always able to find a way to make the material relevant to me personally. I think it’s up to us today to build a system that facilitates that type of personal attention, because each of Connecticut’s students, regardless of race or economic background, deserves nothing less.”
